The oxygen mask analogy, which many of us have accepted at face value, just doesn’t fly!

Have you been told to put your oxygen mask on first and then assist your loved one with theirs in an effort to guide you to first care for yourself so you can remain capable of caring for them.  That analogy is well-intended and meaningful onboard an aircraft, but completely ineffective when applied to eating disorder caregiving because the two situations (putting on an oxygen mask and eating disorder caregiving) hugely differ in fundamental ways.
